On Monday at the Dansoman Carl Reindorf Park, Liberty Professionals of the Onetouch Premier League started off their Round 2 campaign with a 2-0 win over Sekondi Hasaacas.

The match was won by the Dansoman guys thanks to goals from Kofi Nti Boakye and Ashmond Asamoah, one in each half.

After a severe downpour on Sunday, the game was postponed until the following Monday, but the damp surface made it difficult for both teams to keep control of the ball.

Boakye scored the game-winning goal less than a minute into the match, after slotting in a free-kick by Emmanuel Osei, despite the poor quality of the playing surface.

The visitors continued to exert control of the game after going up a goal, but their inconsistency in front of goal kept the score from changing.

Just before halftime, Liberty custodian Yaw Berko stretched to his elastic limit to block away Awudu Musah’s goal-bound shot, the closest the visitors came to scoring.

Hasaacas kept their domination going in the second half after bringing on Peter Essien, but Berko made a key save every time they threatened the goal.

Joseph Afriyie had two great scoring opportunities in the 49th and 55th minutes, but Berko, the game’s MVP, made great saves on headers and a volley, respectively.

Liberty’s midfielder Asamoah startled the sparse crowd by hooking home from a goalmouth scramble in the 71st minute, effectively sealing victory for the home side after Hasaacas had come close to securing an equaliser.
